City Connections Powerpoint

In me humanities class we have been making our city connections. This is where you write about where you write about a place that you have been to and write about its historical, statistical and environmental factors. I believe that I did very well. These are afew things that I think I was really good at. I had a clear voice and I was lound enough that everyone could hear me. I think that I had a lot of information.

One thing that I think I need to improve on is having good eye contact. I looked at a few people but I didn't look at everyone. It is important to memorize mostly everything because then you can look around at the audience. Everyone can hear you much better because you will be facing more at them and not the screen so you can read it off there. Another thing I need to work on is to not fiddle or shake and move around a lot because then I won't sound so shakey and people can focus on the presentation and not me fiddling around. I should probably bring note cards next time because then I wouldn't be reading off of the screen and reading the large list of facts in front of them.

I learned a lot from my information as well as the class did. I knew a few things but, then while I was reaserching about it, I could learn a lot more things. I learned how many people are in my home contry and how many people are male and female. I also learned a lot about the enviroment like that the city was built on a swamp and that the district has three natural flowing bodies of water, the Patomac River and two tributaries, the Anacostia River and Rock Creek. I also learned many historical factors about it.

I personally think that I did a great job on my overall preformance. I had a lound voice, I had a lot of information and maps, I didn't have very good eye contact but I still looked at a few people, I had a clear voice and I didn't really fiddle too much. I do think that I did a good job but next time there are a few things that I need to add to make it a bit better and stop reading off of the screen.

New Year's Resolutions

A resolution is something that you would like to achieve, conquer or start to do this year. There are a lot to chose from such as be healthier, get fit, get organized, help others, learn a new skill, be nicer, etc. My New Year's Resolution was getting organized. Another one that I want to do is to help other people.

During the lovely break, a lot of new kids transferred or move to different schools. There are a lot of new kids that came to ISKL especially 6th grade. No new kids are in my class but I still want to help others more so that they aren't so worried about moving and new friends and so they get to know the school better. I am not a peer helper but that doesn't mean that I don't have to help the new students when either their peer is somewhere else or they are absent.

Getting organized is very important because it helps you in school, you aren't losing things more often, you keep things clean and neat and sometimes in an order. You also stay prepared and have everything where you want and where you need it. I need to get organized because I don't keep things clean and I am not always prepared and I sometime lose things.

Over the break, I stayed in KL. This probably means that I won't do much because there might not be a lot of things to do around the house. I didn't do much of the bigger things, instead I did more littler things. For Christmas, I wanted to go to sleep early. It was very hard for me to get all of my family asleep. After that, when they were all asleep, me and my sister planned to get up early and take a shower. I set my alarm on my phone and it went off early in the morning like I planned. I told my little brother and he also woke up. We had to be super careful not to wake up anyone else. Me and my sister and my little brother ran down the stairs and saw all of the presents. Santa came!!!

For new year's eve, I watched T.V. That night we had dinner and then had sparkling juice. We went to see the fireworks but they were blocked behind the buildings. Since we didn't have such a great new year because of the buildings, the next morning we watched the ball drop in New York on T.V. Watching the ball drop reminded me of America. In America we always used to watch the ball drop and we used to watch the fireworks. In January I went ice skating in Sunway Piramad with a girl and her family. The girl had diabetes and she was very nice. As soon as my skates touched the ice I was so scared because I was worried that I would slip because this was my first time going ice skating. I had a very fun vacation doing little things but I was getting bored but it was a relaxing break not having to worry about airplane rides, hotels, keys and suitcases.

Profile L

On Tuesday, Mr. Whiting came to our class, Mrs. Narsimans class. We learned about profiles. We got to find out which profile we were. Everyone has a dominant hand, foot, eye, ear and side of your brain.  All of my right side was dominant. Everyone is different though. At the end of the class, we got the chance to read about our selves. I was surprised about what it said about me. We got to hear good things about us and a few bad things. We also got information on how to help ourselves. You are either Logic or Gestalt. They are sides of your brain. I am gestalt. My profile is profile L.

I learn best through movement and by focusing on the whole picture, context and emotional relevance to self. If I fidget around or doodle a lot during class, then, I can focus better. When I am doing homework, it's good when I am listening to music. Again, it helps me focus. I learn best by not disturbing people and keeping my inner feelings to myself. I prefer not to follow step-by-step instructions. I tend to start by imaginating the end results and then intuitively doing what seems appropriate.

I need to move while processing internally with minimal external sensory stimulus, I need to move around in the class when I am doing work. I also need to have quiet time alone, especially when integrating new ideas and under stress. When I am under stress, I cannot read, see or hear. All of my senses shut down.

The strategies that would help me in my learning is that I will benefit from sitting where I can process internally, quietly and move without disturbing other learners. Some activities that will help me is lazy 8's and Thinking Caps form Brian Gym, Blinking while tracking with the eyes, megaphones, integrated cross-lateral hand and foot play like knitting, writing and drawing with the non-dominant hand, conscious walking, dancing, soccer, and martial arts like Tai Chi. An integrative balance of art, music, movement and interpersonal skills combined with cognitive endeavors in linguistics and mathematics will be highly beneficial. When I fiddle around with things or listen to music I can focus better.

I would like my teachers to know this about me I can focus more when I fiddle around with things or draw. I would like them to also know that when I listen to music or draw or move I can focus better. When I am under stress I am not any help. I have trouble listening and reading. My whole side of my Brain shuts off and I lose all of my senses. When I am relaxed I am a lot better at things. I am better at sports, dance, ect. I am under stress usually when I have a lot of homework.

Having Lit circles parteners

What is the benefit of having a partner? The benefit of having a partner is that they might not do their work. They might write the same passage or questions if you don't keep a watch of what they are doing. If they don't do their work then you'll get a bad grade. They might do their work at the last minute and so they might make a lot of mistakes that they didn't notice before because you and your partner didn't get the chance to look back and they definitely have rushed on it so of course there are going to be mistakes. You need to make sure that they are doing what they are doing ever day and make sure that they don't do their work on the last minute and really take it seriously if they aren't done on the day that it is due. Take the lit circles with your partner very seriously.

Things that we were trying to accomplish was the time that we finished our lit circles. Personally I tried to accomplish the size of the writing. How long my passage a response to question and how could I make it bigger and add things to it without making things too boring. I tried to add as much as I can and I had achieved my goal and my passage and response to question and even my connection was long. Me and my partner still need to work on the time that we finish our lit circles because we were done not even the night before it was due. We were finished with the whole thing at the last minute.

I gained some new understandings that I gained about the novel Hatchet. Shannon could give and help me have new understanding about the book. Brian was smart and he was good at fixing things. He was a smart boy and he had his fears too. He had his fears and he was brave though about the bear and the pain in his legs because of the porcupine. Shannon helped me understand parts of the story that I didn't understand.

Lit Circles

How did your discussion help your understanding of the novel? The reason why the discussion helped my understanding because having a question about the book  that you didn't answer someone else might answer for you and you know more about the book. You can make connections with them and they can help you fix your mistakes and give you some ideas. Having a group disscusion can help you understand the book a lot better.

What connections did you make during the discussions? Some connections that we all had was the choice of the passages. This was really interesting to me because I didn't think that we would have the same passage. Also, since we had the same passages, it would be interesting to see how their's was different to mine. even though they were about the same thing. I thought it was interesting to hear their connections. They had really good connections and you don't only understand and learn more about the book you can also learn about them.

What are some predictions that you had? Well some predictions that I had was that Brian will use his hatchet to find food and shelter and save himself on the island.  I also think that his father will look for him and find him in the end. He will drink from the lake and find food somewhere in the island. His dad and mom would search for him, but they will not find Brian as soon as he expects them to.

New Guinean People

Even though Papau New Guinea is located in the same region as Australia and New Zealand, why is it that Australia and New Zealand became technologically advanced and wealthy? One reason is because Papua New Guinean people are only hunters or gatherers just like Paleolithic people. This is because they lived in the jungle. They were busy everyday making sure they had enough food to be healthy. So, they never had time to discover new technology. Another reason is because Australia and New Zealand had settlers, this means that they were very rich people coming coming in from Europe, and at that time Europe was technologically advanced aswell. So they brought everything with them which includes all of their natural resources.

The English were already occupying other countries. When the Dutch came to New Zealand other European countries started to follow the Dutch and they brought with them the newest type of technology. Also the settlers found very rich resources from Australia and New Zealand so, a lot of them came to buy from them. Now moving on to trade and geography.

Papua New Guinea only had hunters and gatherers because they live in the jungle and they were busy everyday making sure they had food so they never had time to discover new technology. In Papua New Guinea their is only jungle, so there are no cows or goats that can survive in the jungle. When the Australians started farming then they lived healthier since they could domesticate animals and get more than one food source.
