Freedom and Choices

" Gabriel's breathing was even and deep. Jonas liked having him there, though he felt guilty about the secret. Each night he gave memories to Gabriel: memories of boat rides and picnics in the sun; memories of soft rainfall against windowpanes; memories of dancing bare-footed on a damp lawn.
"Gabe?"
The new child stirred slightly in his sleep, Jonas looked over at him.
"There could be love" Jonas whispered.

The next morning, for the first time, Jonas did not take his pill. Something within him, something that had grown there through the memories, told him to throw the pill away"

This quote is all about choices and freedom. There are many reasons for this. Firstly, because Jonas had a little bit of freedom. He wasn't allowed to tell Gabriel the memories, but he did. Jonas threw the pill away by choice and because he had freedom now. No one knew what he did with Gabriel so he has freedom. Jonas didn't have to tell Gabriel about the memories and he didn't have to throw away the pill but he wanted to. It was his
choice to throw away the pill. He knew that he didn't have to eat it. He wanted to have emotions. He liked the way they made him feel.

The reason why he told Gabriel the memories is because he wanted to share them with him because he was started to feel like Gabriel was an important person to him as well as the Giver. Jonas could do anything he likes because no one can see what he does. That means that what ever he does that breaks the rules doesn't matter because no one will know. This means that he has a little bit of free time. These are all of the reasons why I think that the quote was about freedom and choices.
