When Jonas learns all about colors, he claims "it isn't fair that nothing has color". Why does he say this? I think that Jonas is really starting to question the community and he is wondering why the apple changed color but nothing else had color. He liked the color of the apple and he wanted the community to have color. He wants to know more about color and what color everything around him would be with some color in the world. Colors express people in many ways and I think that it isn't fair too.

Color is important to the world. Without color, everything would be really boring. No one will get to see color. They wouldn't be able to see rainbows. More importantly, people wouldn't be able to enjoy the beauty of colors. When people meet each other, they will not be able to ask, "what is your favorite color." They wouldn't be able to know what color will be like if they were eating pancakes, they wouldn't know what color it would be and that would be disgusting.

No one will know what color of the sky is. What if they thought the color of the sky was pink? They wouldn't know. Its not fair to not have any color around you. When people wanted to paint, they couldn't because there is no point. There would just be gray or white or black everywhere. They wouldn't be able to love the true beauty of colors. Everything would be the same color and nothing would stand out or be beautiful as much as color would be if color was in the community.

He wants to know more about colors. When Jonas' friends, Asher, tosses the apple to him and it changes color he was really interested in what happened. He loved the color that the apple had changed to. In a world without color, if I tossed an apple and it changed color, I am pretty sure that I would like to know a lot more about color. So far only Jonas wants to learn more about color because he was the only one who saw the color of the apple change from gray, black, or white, to red.

Colors express people. Whatever color you wear or like really expresses you a lot. I know that color is a big part of who you are. Colors can help cure you. This is no joke. Colors can really heal your body a lot. Two of my brothers got cured by color so this is not fair that Jonas can't have this or that his community can't have color. I think that these are all of the reasons why Jonas really wants color in the world.

  1. Cienna - your understanding of this mind blowing novel is amazing. Colors are infact beautiful and mesmerizing at times - especially those times where you can't stop observing something, the colors just reach out to you - even if it's a plank of wood. The discussion we had during the meeting on Wednesday about colors had some disagreements and yours has so much proof - it really explains why no colors is unfair. You need to add some quotes, though. Good job - you also put in a fact that wasn't in the book (colors can cure.)

    Congratulations, Cienna. :)
